Upper Echelon welcomes back Garmin-Slipstream professional cyclist Tyler Farrar for a presentation to recap his cycling season. Tyler Farrar is a stage winner in the Tour de France, Giro di Italia, and Vuelta Espana. Joining Tyler will be Jacob Rathe, a Portland resident and cycling prodigy racing on the Garmin-Slipstream team in 2012. The events host will be Dave Towle, announcer at the Tour of California and amaerica’s premier cycling announcer. Review the highs and lows of 2011 and gain insight into the life of a professional cyclist. This will be an educational evening with two of the fastest and nicest professional cyclists in the world.

Upper Echelon is happy to announce The West Hills Challenge 2011. This is a an event using Strava to record times for climbing the popular training routes in the West hills of Portland. The competition is now open and the climbs must be completed before the end of August 2011.
How? You only need a GPS device (Garmin, iPhone, etc) to record your climbing performance. Upload your ride data to Strava and your climbing time will be recorded and added to your results sheet on the events page. Easy! You have over two months to complete the 5 hills. If you have questions, contact us and we will help.
Prizes: Awards for top 10 GC (combined times for each climb) and for Stage Wins. Prize info coming soon!

Weekly Cycling Clinics at Portland International Raceway.
New to bicycle racing and want to see what it was all about? Never raced your bike? Even better. This is for you! Want to learn the basics, and more? Meet other racers, coaches and racing teams? This is your clinic.
Clinics will be held every week before the races begin. The second Monday of each month will be a women’s-only clinic. The clinics will include basics of what bike racing is about led by Upper Echelon coaches Chris Swan and Tina Brubaker along with other top racers and coaches, Q and A, and networking with other racers and teams.

We have begun adding classes for Winter, starting in November. We will continue our successful X-Training for Cyclists class, and begin BikeYoga and Echelon Indoor Cycling classes. All classes are part of our class package and require online registration. Space is limited, so online registration insures your spot. A 10-class package is $125 or an individual class credit is $15. All types of classes are part of the package, so you can take a Echelon Cycling class one week, a BikeYoga class the next week, etc. Pick and choose the classes that fit your schedule for training and for life. Congrats to Upper Echelon Fitness athlete, Morgan Schmitt of the United Healthcare professional Cycling Team, on his recent string of success. After rolling into the season a bit behind schedule after a poor timed illness, Morgan has been working diligently on his training program to come into form. After promising early season rides at Dana Point, Morgan gained a bump in fitness from Tour of Gila to gain stellar form for Mt Hood Cycling Classic, an obective of his this season. The new location is in NW Portland and features an Endless Pool (2 lanes!) for training and instruction.
